50's Wiring Kit for Les Paul
The original 1950s wiring method, as used in the first Les Pauls through the late 1950s, is an essential component for guitarists seeking that legendary vintage sound. Our wiring kit works equally well with humbucker and P-90 pickups.
Features of the 50s Wiring Kit:
- Potentiometers: High-quality Custom CTS 550K Audio Taper – available in either 3/4“ (19.05 mm) long shaft or 3/8” (9.52 mm) short shaft with 9.5 mm thread.
- Capacitor: choice of 0.022 uF - 22 nF Mallory, Centralab (oil-filled), or Bumblebees
- Jack: Sturdy SWITCHCRAFT 1/4" mono audio jack.
For anyone planning a complete rewiring of their Les Paul, we also offer a pre-wired 3-way toggle switch from Centralab—the perfect addition.
For optimal installation, each kit includes a high-quality ring wrench that allows you to tighten the potentiometer nuts securely and precisely without damaging the guitar’s finish.
How do you find the right potentiometers and switches for your Les Paul?
Les Paul models vary greatly—there are countless variations with different switches and pots. Here are some basic guidelines:
Up to 1977: Les Pauls with arched tops use short pots and long toggle switches.
From 1977 onward: Various configurations, as listed below:
